About Me
My name is melanie, let me be your whole health guide
It all started when…
Growing up, my family spent the summers camping and exploring the great outdoors, at least the weekends we weren't at swim meets. We biked, hiked, swam in frigid lakes and rivers, and explored as much of the Pacific NW as possible. My mom threw me into the pool at the ripe age of 6-months old and I haven't been able to get out! I swam competitively from the age of 8 to the age of 17 when I sustained a shoulder injury that took me out of the pool, but landed me on the pool deck coaching. From that young age, I developed a passion for helping others achieve their goals.
When I had to stop swimming competitively, I attempted to take up running to keep up with my physical fitness. In my mid-twenties I struggled with consistent hip-flexor pain that lead me to the doctor who said surgery might be my only option. In hindsight, I wasn't listening to my body...
In 2009, I walked into a Lululemon for my very first yoga class (taught by Tiffany Cruikshank)… I was hooked! It was the first time I felt a deep connection to self. For the next 5 years I dove in headfirst to practicing and learning all I could. I started with power vinyasa but pushed my body too far and sustained a neck injury that took me down for a little while. The fantastic thing about my yoga practice was the revolutionary idea that I needed to learn how to listen to my body. I realized that by listening and backing off, I could find balance and strength that supported my body rather than stressing it.
During those years my physical practice of yoga was my primary focus, but I started to notice I was lacking in other areas. In the spring of 2014, I saw my first holistic health coach, and had no idea what to expect. Under her guidance I started a month-long program that included a radically different approach to clean eating, mediation and energy work, and guidance on how to get in-tune with not only my body sensation, but with my internal landscape. I felt different, but it was easy to slip back into old habits because I was unclear on how to sustain healthy eating habits for my body. After another year of discomfort, I tried again. I spent the next year seeking out resources online to teach myself to cook and grocery shop with intention. I struggled! Through all my struggle, all I could think about was how can I help ease this transition for others.
In January of 2016, I started my certification to be a certified Holistic Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Spending time each week learning from a star line up of different coaches and professionals in the field. I learned so much about health and wellness, which fueled my excitement for helping others.
